Dongshan’s record series #8
When Dongshan was taking his leave, Yün-yen asked, "Where are you going?"
Dongshan replied, "Although I am leaving you, I still haven't decided where I'll stay."
Yün-yen asked, "You're not going to Hunan, are you?"
"No," replied Dongshan.
"You're not returning to your native town, are you?" asked Yün-yen.
"No," replied Dongshan.
"When will you return?" asked Yün-yen.
"I'll wait until you have a fixed residence," said Dongshan.
Yün-yen said, "After your departure, it will be hard to meet again."
Dongshan said, "It will be hard not to meet."
So, Dongshan is almost off and away, after being with Yun-yen’s place for a long time. It’s almost time to leave the nest. This sub is full of vacuity, essences, oneness, not being, no realities, not one single thing, etc. All of these are essentialist tropes spring from the Diamond Sutra, which said “dwell nowhere, and bring forth that mind”. It seems a lot of people have got a handle on “dwell nowhere”, but really, what is it without “and bring forth that mind?” When it’s mentioned, lots of folk don't even realize there's land underneath their feet and sky above their heads. I blame HuangPo’s clarity and the New Age movement for all that nothingness.
Can we say that Dongshan and Yun-yen are departing on good terms? Dongshan seems to be playing with Yun-yen - “I’ll wait until you have a fixed residence.”
Yün-yen said, "After your departure, it will be hard to meet again." – Yun-yen offers a triple reinforced slab.
Dongshan said, "It will be hard not to meet." Is that true? What will be going on in that meeting?
See ya..bye now..later..have a good day...
