I think of Linji and his wild transformation into a yelling, whisker-pulling, mind like a wall madman. People in Zen seem to discover -- or maybe allow -- a more assertive self.
I'd trained myself to think that feeling angry was a bad thing. I can be passive aggressive and avoidant of confrontation, and I've found that it affects my well being. To me, it seems like being more aggressive is not really the answer, so I'm trying to find a balance between amicable nice guy and asshole.
I think the Zen forum is full of students of self, so what resources do you have on the subject? Inb4 don't look outside yourself, try r/selfhelp lol.
I'm in a position in my life where I see myself more clearly, noticing a whole lot of energy goes into suppression and resentment. And I think a person can learn to overcome self-diminishing habits.
