Hey everyone, some of the regulars may remember me as Jaethrandir. I got into the forum a little over a year ago and was pretty active under that tag.
I havent participated much recently and felt like changing things up with this name instead.
I came into this forum from a Taoist background, knowing jackshit about Zen, and now have a fair collection of books from both fields. I enjoy to study both, compare and contrast, and see how they are similar and different in dealing with our place in reality.
I think Taoism offers a more lifestyle approach in "cultivating the Tao" and sound practical advice in living a balanced life. While Zen points directly to the matter at hand and doesnt care much for the "-ism's" added onto the Tao as seen in Taoism.
Not Zen?
I don't claim to have a lineage, I'm just a 23 year old guy trying to figure his life out. I find studying a mix of Taoism and Zen is a great practice into what amounts to evaluating yourself against reality, where you fit into the grand scheme of things.
What's your text?
My main Chan texts are Haung-Po and the Gateless Gate. I recently got the Recorded Saying of Zen Master Joshu and enjoy going through that.
Dharma Low Tides?
Were all human and suffer in our own ways, big and small. It's important, I think, to not run from attachments and emotions when they arise, but rather witness them as for what they are and try your best to remain unbiased when dealing with them. As hard as that may seem at times.
I have plenty of times where I don't touch any of my books, times where I dont meditate as often as i like, and times where I am lost, but being lost is all part of the game!
What's up?
