Often we have heard of different states of mind. Everyone holds a certain view of life, of themselves, don’t they?
But what views did you hold before, as a child? When you were fresh in this world, did everything make sense? Or did it all seem wonderous and mysterious? But even then, we were constantly told to use our heads, to think responsibly. To just be ourselves.
But who are we? Is who we are just a view that we hold, a state of mind? If so, does who we are change every time we change how we see ourselves?
If we stop viewing ourselves at all, than who are we? If our state of mind lacks self, then who decides what we do?
Happy or sad, love or hate, peace or stress, gain or loss, bad or good, long or short. Aren’t these all just views we have as well? States of mind that we cling to, and so are stuck in.
But who is capable of not holding any views? Of having no one state of mind, but able to freely change from one to another, never stuck.
I ask who, not looking for a specific answer, because there isn’t anyone who is capable. The mind doesn’t belong to an I or a Me. It is void, formless and empty. Reflecting everything it takes in, like a bright mirror on a stand.
Let go of any views, that’s what it means to hollow out your eyes. Don’t get stuck in any states of mind, that is to pull out pegs and shear through iron.
States of mind can be as hard as iron, or as deeply imbedded in us as a peg.
