Specifically, what makes Zen what other Buddhist traditions are not?

And, is being a Zen Buddhist same as being Zen, if not, why?

A related question: what does Zen say about gods / devas, ghosts, supernatural phenomena, the soul, karma, demons etc. given that other Buddhist traditions believe in them?
