I have found a path and walked it. Only general direction is clear. Theoretical examples will get you nowhere, hence I'll speak from experience from here on. May this get you where you need to be.
I have said before that it is difficult to walk away from doubt when even walking to the next town seems like a fantasy. It is just one foot in front of the other until you are there. Being there can feel sudden, but it's been a long time coming.
Old monks would walk. They'd walk all over the place. It was common for adepts to go walking to round out their knowledge. The masters were found by word of mouth, by feel and by trusting the path.
Huang Po says it best, the buddha is sentient beings. You are all the buddha, get out and genuinely meet yourself when you get the chance. Stroll to the next town, or the next continent. See the motion of humanity in concert with the seasons. The desert hollows you out, and the mountain opens your senses. The quiet day spent walking in the woods, from a tiny stop 100 miles back, to a puny shack 100 miles in the distance, let that be life and see where your zen comes from then.
Then you may find yourself mediating in doorways, and flying as easily as walking.
The river divides the valley for those who have dry socks.
The one without suffering is the one who has ceased the path.
