Yangshan remarked, "Asking whether or not there is another way to achieve enlightenment creates a disturbance in your mind."
Doctrinally, there is in Zen the rejection that enlightenment is a conditioned state arising from particular practices or the embodiment of intention or belief. In other words, the lineage of Guiyang is directly at odds with both the "zazen" prayer-enlightenment practices of Japanese Buddhism and the psychedelic perrenialist theology that teaches enlightenment through correct belief.
The practice of an undistrubed mind isn't attested to by sitting in a corner looking for answers.
