The World Honored Slice of Jade

僧問洛浦。如何是一大藏教收不得者。

Once, a Precepter asked Luopu, “Who is one that cannot receive the teaching of the Scripturalists Canon?”

浦云。雨滋三草秀。片玉本來輝。

Luopo replied, “Rainwaters make the ‘Three Herbs’ blossom, however, a slice of Jade is originally radiant."

The 'three herbs', refers to the threefold division of doctrinal teachings that believers claim can supernaturally 'remediate illnesses'. So the possibility of a Buddhism, a "Zen Buddhism", or any cultivated state of meditation having anything at all to say about the radiance that does not depend on remedies is out the window. According to Yongjia, trying to approach it from a religious perspective just ends up exploding your brain.

But when you get to a place where there isn't a single herb for a thousand miles, what do you call it?
