Dahui's Real Original, the First Shobogenzo:      

433 .  One day the sixth patriarch said to his students, “I want to return to Xinzhou; prepare a boat at once.”  His students said, “After you leave here, when will you come back?”  The patriarch said, “Fallen leaves return to the root; when I came I had no mouth.”

Fayun Xiu said, “Not only did he have no mouth when he came; when he left he had no nostrils either.”
