One day Yanguan said to his attendant, “Bring me the rhinoceros horn fan.” The attendant said, “The fan is broken.” Yanguan said, “If the fan is broken, bring me the rhinoceros.”

I am still puzzled by this. I don't know if it is an absurdist joke or something to be taken serious. I don't have a clear idea of what a rhinoceros horn fan even is. I imagine it is something about the relationship between parts and wholes and whether they can reconnect or not. The rhino horn fan is broken so bring me the rhinoceros who's broken from his lost horn. Or maybe it is something about going to the source when you feel dissatisfied. I really don't know. These are just attempts to make sense of something weird. I enjoy the brain tingle of not knowing, of laughing and seriously contemplating all at once, but I am also curious to see what you all make of this, and if nothing else, invite you to join me in not understanding.
