Haiku used to prove that haiku was good zen practice?

I remember reading somewhere about a zen practitioner who was criticized for writing haiku by his master. Something like that.

Then, the practitioner writes his master a haiku. The master finds it dope, and says that it is indeed zen practice. Can anyone tell me who the characters are in this story or what the haiku was? A link would be very helpful.
