Why do you study and or practice Zen?

It is a simple but powerful question. I've asked this to a few people in here who often tend to argue against me, or continually refute any claims about Zen that I make. They literally will not answer it. Why does this question have them running in fear? What are they afraid to reveal?

Can you answer this question honestly to yourself? Would you share the answer in here? To truly investigate one's mind, which is the essence of Zen practice, requires courage and determination. How can you claim to be a person of the Way if one honest question reveals you as a fraud?
