Huangbo Xiyun: So they were called sages who, abandoning learning, have come to rest in spontaneity.

If you now set about using your minds to seek Mind, listening to the teaching of others, and hoping to reach the goal through mere learning, when will you ever succeed? Some of the ancients had sharp minds; they no sooner heard the Doctrine proclaimed than they hastened to discard all learning. So they were called ‘Sages who, abandoning learning, have come to rest in spontaneity'.

In these days people only seek to stuff themselves with knowledge and deductions, seeking everywhere for book-knowledge and calling this ‘Dharma-practice'. They do not know that so much knowledge and deduction have just the contrary effect of piling up obstacles. Merely acquiring a lot of knowledge makes you like a child who gives himself indigestion by gobbling too much curds. Those who study the Way according to the Three Vehicles are all like this. All you can call them is people who suffer from indigestion.

Huangbo Xiyun, On the Transmission of Mind, translated by John Blofeld

Wandering Ronin commentary and questions: Damn; looks like Huangbo just outright shut it down for a few people in the forum if they seriously rely on 'wrrds', haha. If we cannot even use on the mind to find mind or rely on what we have learned from the teachings, then where does that leave us? What is Huangbo even saying here?

There is no possible way one can understand it if they are holding on to any foundations whatsoever. No mind, no body, no practice, no learning, no seeking; not even the Dharma. That is some cold-blooded shit right there. Who in the world could withstand getting cut down to that level? Only thing left to do then is simply leap clear, but I assure you, game recognizes game.

I really don't like if I can sense that a single person in the forum that hasn't grasped the intuitive knowledge of the Absolute. No Mind Left Behind. Unfortunately, there's not a single thing I can do to bring someone else to an understanding of it. The Absolute cannot be proven in a court of law. So what's the verdict? Life and death.
