I don't know if I know anything: AMA!

Preface:

I hung out here for about 6 months about a year ago; I decided to come back for a few reasons. Primary among them is to have my worldview challenged (especially since I am now in uni, and want to avoid getting too convinced on that model of conception). I am here to learn. I have put a fair amount of time into zen texts, but so far 99% of the outcome has been mild confusion. Not sure where that leaves me. Or what that even means...

Not Zen? (Repeat Question 1) Suppose a person denotes your lineage and your teacher as Buddhism unrelated to Zen, because there are several quotations from Zen patriarchs denouncing seated meditation. Would you be fine saying that your lineage has moved away from Zen and if not, how would you respond to being challenged concerning it?

I do not have a lineage. But I also don't really have a horse in this race. Can't imagine my opinion on the matter mattering.

What's your text? (Repeat Question 2) What text, personal experience, quote from a master, or story from zen lore best reflects your understanding of the essence of zen?

Maybe I am the guy who is clinging to the tree with his mouth, except I don't know what to say; Even if I did I would probably be too afraid to let go.

Dharma low tides? (Repeat Question 3) What do you suggest as a course of action for a student wading through a "dharma low-tide"? What do you do when it's like pulling teeth to read, bow, chant, sit, or post on r/zen?

I am looking for an answer to this myself! What is the difference between the two anyway?

I appreciate your time humans :)
