It's not the one from buddha about a man making a raft to clear a river and deciding not to carry the raft afterwards. It's from a book I read years ago that was (I believe) from a buddhist monk.
In the story, there's a captain of a boat going down a river. At first he's trying to paddle to a perfect spot. Obviously, he's never happy, because as soon as he gets to a certain spot, the stream carries him past it. But once he learns to work on his boat, and make it a comfortable place for wherever the stream may take him, he finds happiness.
Does anyone know the passage I'm referring to? It had a major impact on my life and I'd very much like to be able to read it again. As you can imagine, the author was able to put it a bit more eloquently than I did.
