Disclaimer, I have no problem with sitting, but even Archimedes had his eureka moment in a bathtub, or "showerthoughts" is a thing.
Its obvious that sitting has been thru many iterations over the ages, that it has been a thing for Indian ascetics and rowdy teenage conscripts to monasteries dropped off by pious parents hoping for merit. Timeout. Discipline.
But the comparison of Dogen's zazen with enlightenment took sitting to a whole new level in Japan after 1250 CE, 500 years after the futility of polishing a brick into a mirror was joked about.
Modern Dogens are selling sensory deprivation chambers. Anyone try one of those?
