What is the meaning of "Everyday Mind is the Way"?

From Zen and Zen Classics, vol. 3, by R.H. Blyth:

A monk asked Changsha [from Nanquan], "What is the meaning of 'Your every-day mind is the Way?"

Changsha said, "When you want to sleep, you sleep; when you want to sit, you sit."

The monk said, "This learner does not understand."

Changsha said, "When you are hot, you cool yourself; when you are cold, you warm yourself."

.

ewk ? note: Let us face facts. People who come into this forum angry at Zen are angry because they are suffering from religion. Most don't have teachers. Most are torturing themselves with religious shame or religious desire. Some of these people troll the forum, hoping that by repeating their doctrines and talking about their prayers these prayers and doctrines will somehow be fulfilled It's a terrible fate, full of frustration and hopelessness, and anger.

These sorts want to talk about meditation as a means of liberation, turning meditation into a kind of mental slavery. They can't get out. They can't even read Zen texts like Changsha's dialogue because there isn't enough religion in Zen teachings. When you are hot, cool yourself? How does that save all sentient beings?

Well, I cannot expound the dharma of inanimate things to these people, no matter who reproaches me.
