I'm not saying that I've directly experienced enlightenment, but I can see a pattern with my own insights in my practice of Zen that is starting to make more and more sense now. With each insight, for those of you who have had the experience, there is a glimpse into dharma nature. This glimpse is the reality of all realities and is a window that opens to absolute truth. As human beings, our minds have become inverted over time and are almost completely blocked from seeing the oneness behind all things. With a practice in Zen and a strong insight, the walls of delusion are penetrated and we see through to this dharma nature, more and more each time.
As we move further along in our practice, we may come to a deeper understanding of the true nature of things and act accordingly. These insights don't give you anything or grant any special powers, but they merely take away more and more delusion from our normally walled-in minds. That is why I feel that the Zen masters can say that Zen is "nothing special" and have talks about "ordinary mind." People can tend to think that enlightenment is this amazing mystical experience, when in fact it seems that it is merely an unclouding of the deluded mind. The true Mind was always there, as it is dharma nature, its just that we have to learn to be able to see it through our practice.
