You're your enemy.

Someone asked [Linji], “What is Buddha-Māra?”

The master said, “One thought of doubt in your mind is Māra. But if you realize that the ten thousand dharmas never come into being, that mind is like a phantom, that not a speck of dust nor a single thing exists, that there is no place that is not clean and pure—this is Buddha.

Thus Buddha and Māra are simply two states, one pure, the other impure.

Once again a zen master explains that zen has nothing to do with what and how outside things are, and that zen deals with your mind only.

Zen is a tool. A tool you use to realize and understand.

The realization leads to the state of your mind being above and beyond everything!

Like a silent observer who's being aware of everything but only intervenes when he's deciding freely, independently and spontaneously to do so.

How did Linji react when Huangbo wanted him to take Baizhang's backrest and armrest? Right...
