There are 2 words in the first sentence of “The Sutra of Hui-neng" (translated by TC) which need to be meditated on for forever.

Good Friends…
“Inherently pure”
Inherently does not mean before, or, was or was before, but: assumed to be true due to its nature, or, somewhere in its pieces was initially this ___ , and without ___ the recognizable emergent would not manifest.
Inherent. There is only obviousness when something is inherent.
The inherent particular may not be able to be named specifically, but the product is dependent on the inherent particular.
A thing that is inherent is not hidden.
Pure. Huineng claims what is inherent is 'Pureness'. Pureness is not hidden, if we trust hunieng.
Pure is only the absence of what is not clean if cleanliness is to be what is kept pure.
Pure is too free of an idea to beget judgement. Anything is pure so long as it is wholly itself.
What is entirely itself is not hidden, if we trust huineng.
