This post is part 2 of that post, it just took me awhile to catch up.
In the decade I've been on this forum, the lying has changed. At first it was okay to be racist and religiously bigoted, now people pretend they aren't so they can participate and make claims.
I find that cute, really. Like a kid lying about cookies with his hand in the jar.
Here's Wumen:
7) Zhaozhou Washes a Bowl
Zhaozhou: Because a monk asked, "This beginner has newly entered the jungle. I beg teacher to instruct.", Zhou said, "You still haven’t finished eating the rice gruel."
The monk said, "I also finished eating the rice gruel."
Zhou said, “Wash your alms bowl and go.”
This monk had insight.
** Wumen says:**
When Zhaozhou opens his mouth one catches sight of his gallbladder and he exposes his heart and liver. This monk heard the matter. It is not reality to pretend the call of the bell is an urn.
Wumen's Instructional Ode:
Simply act in differentiation to arrive at clarity;
Searching makes one’s income to be late;
The beginner understood the lamp is fire;
The cooked rice was done already too long a time.
Remember now, Wumen is a real life Zen Master. No sex scandals. No racism. No lying about history to promote a church. He was a living Buddha and he rubbed elbows with other living Buddhas.
He's writing Zen instruction here, but he's writing it his way, to his kind of people. The "exposes his heart and liver" and shows his gallbladder bit are a reference to Zhaozhou revealing everything in his heart. That's a big deal in Zen.
It's not like that with Zazen church or Buddhism... they don't put any value on full disclosure. We know this because of the lack of transparency on all kinds of things, from sex predators to doctrine.

Yo͞ok Welcome! Meet me My comment: So when people come into this forum and make wild claims about being a Zen Master or having met one and then can't answer questions, we know they aren't Zen right away.
This one guy just today finally told me something he's been holding back about (lying, really)... I know he's religious and he lies about it, I know his refusal to answer questions is lying, I know he's a religious bigot and a racist, but here's the new revelation:
I come on here to talk about Zen, despite the bad people I find here.
He's found bad people. Not people who lie. Not cowards. But bad people.
Like so many of the people who come in here and try to hide things, eventually it comes out if they stay long enough and talk long enough.
When you think about what it would mean for him to open with that, you might find it pretty astounding. He knows who is naughty and who is nice. He's seen the list, everybody.
I don't find it astounding. I knew he was lying all along. I knew it was just a matter of time.
