A monk asked, "What is my self?"
Master Yunmen said, "I, this old monk, enter mud and water."
The monk exclaimed, "So I will crush my bones and tear my body to pieces!"
The Master shouted and said, "The water of the whole great ocean is on your head. Quickly, speak! Quickly, speak!"
The monk was left without words.
In his place, the Master said, "I know that you, Master, fear that I'm not quite genuine."
Reminds me of Foyan: 'Professional monks say, "Thinking will not do; not thinking will not do either." Then how do they teach people to contemplate? I tell you, just step back and look.'
Why couldn't the monk say, "I have no words."? Ha.
Have a great day!
