I was thinking of people that have a view with dependent forms with those of their teachers. Should the connection break, can their view continue if they alone are supporting it? There was a hermit monk that had learned 'this mind is buddha" from Matsu. When they asked a visitor what Matsu was currently teaching and was told "mind is not buddha", they said that's fine, but they were keeping mind as buddha.
Those seeking teachers might spend years with them. But if they find their dharmic view will need stand only supported by them, they might consider if a teacher is aiding them in standing alone if required before doing any attaching to them.
