Oh, r/zen I wish i could tell you that this was still r/zen. But I've come to realize that you can't have a forum without people.
And there are no people here.
No, my friends... this is now "The New Age States Of Zombieland"
It's amazing how quickly things can go from bad to total shit-storm. So why am I alive, when everyone around me has turned to meat? It's because of my list of precepts rules.
Rule #1 for survival in r/zen is…
Cardio
You know, when there’s a bunch of zombies around trying to eat your brains, it’s pretty obvious that you are gonna have to use your body to move around if you don’t wanna turn into one. If you stay in the same spot, they WILL get you. You have to keep moving. As survivalist expert Foyan said,
As soon as you say you understand Zen, people watch whatever you do and whatever you say, wondering why you said this or that. If you claim to understand Zen, moreover, this is actually a contention of ignorance. What about the saying that one should "silently shine, hiding one's enlightenment"? What about "concealing one's name and covering one's tracks"? What about "the path is not different from the human mind"?
So don’t stay too comfy and make conceptual palaces out of ramshackled expedient devices. If you are in the same spot than yesterday, you are already dead.
Look at how two survivors answer when questioned about this:
A monk asked Jiashan, "How is it when getting rid of the dust to see Buddha?" Jiashan said, "You should directly swing the sword. If you don't swing the sword, the fisherman stays in a nest." The monk brought it up to ask Shishuang, "How is it when getting rid of dust to see Buddha?" Shishuang said, "He has no country--Where will you meet him?"

No country, no nest. Of course, to get out of the nest you have to be able to swing your sword, which brings me to my second rule:
Double Tap
As the infection spreads and the chaos grows, it’s not enough to be fast on your feet. You gotta get the Dharma and learn how to use it.
Nanquan said to a chief monk, "What Sutra are you lecturing on?"
The monk replied, "The Nehan Sutra."
Nanquan said, "Won't you explain it to me?"
The monk said, "If I explain the sutra to you, you should explain Zen to me."
Nanquan said, "A golden ball is not the same as a silver one."
The monk said, "I don't understand."
Nanquan said, "Tell me, can a cloud in the sky be nailed there, or bound there with a rope?"
In those moments when the undead are not sure if they are really dead themselves, don’t get all stingy with your words. I mean… one more clear shot to the head and you can prevent the free from becoming a human happy meal.
It doesn’t take long for the zombies to become clever, when you are at your most vulnerable, somehow they can just smell it. Don’t let them catch you with your pants down. Rule #3,
Beware of laziness
You have to work towards your own survival. In this Zombieland, no one but yourself can make you stay alive. The zombies are certainly not gonna do it, and other people who remain alive can’t do it for you.
Master Wuzu said to an assembly,
An ancient said, "If I tell you, it’ll strip my tongue; if I don’t tell you, it’ll silence my mouth." Now tell me, is there any help for people in this? Sometimes I try to swallow for you, but it’s blocked by my own teeth; sometimes I try to spit out for you, but my throat is too small. So tell me, is there any help for people?
I’ve always been a purist.
Once you are survival material, no one can take it away from you. Obviously zombies can eat you, but aren’t they just proving you weren’t survival material in the first place? So are you a Zombie or a fellow human? They say in order to know you have to meet another person, or even a half.
People today do not realize clearly, inevitably making an understanding. By a bit of understanding, they have blocked themselves off. One can only investigate comprehensively through experience; one cannot understand just by intellectual interpretation. Once you have comprehended thoroughly with unified comprehension, you will no longer doubt.

So don’t get complacent, and do your own work to ensure your survival. Otherwise, even if you run into someone out there, how will you know if listening to them is gonna help you or ensure you end up eaten by zombies? Who can you trust? Rule#4,
Trust in Mind
You are originally a being capable of great survival. Just don't pick and choose, and trust in that original nature. The six rayed divine light of survival never ceases to shine. Haven't you heard how National Teacher of Qingliang said,
Although mind itself is Buddha, only those who experience it actually know. But if there is 'realization' and 'knowledge,' then the sun of wisdom sets in the land of existence. Yet if there is no illumination and no awakening, then dark clouds cover the gate of emptiness.
and
If you seek reality trying to get rid of illusion, that is like wearing out your body to get rid of your shadow; if you realize how illusion is truth, that is like staying in the shade so your shadow disappears.

Follow these rules and your survival is certainly not guaranteed. Don't follow them and you can make your own survival guide! If you don't become a zombie...
Stay tuned for my next survival entry for some more rules and the always exciting Zombie kill of the week. Take care out there and good luck!
