Dahui's Real Original, the First Shobogenzo:
371. Prime Minister Li asked a monk, “What verbal teaching does Grand Master Ma have?” The monk said, “Sometimes he says mind is Buddha, sometimes he say it is not mind, not Buddha.” Li said, “It’s all beyond This Side.” Li instead asked master Xitang Zang, “What verbal teaching does Grand Master Ma have?” Zang called, “Prime Minister!” Li responded. Zang said, “The drums and horns directing the army have gone into action.”

(Welcome link) ewk link note: Sometimes we have conversations in this forum about how impossibly hard to understand all this Zen is, but I disagree. It isn't hard to understand, it isn't hard to practice. People don't want to give up their religions and philosophies. The army is mustered, but the commander refuses to put the army in the field. Why is that? Knowing is easy, not knowing is hard. Freedom from accountability is easy, fire god seeking fire is hard. What do I do? is easy, I'm doing is hard.
