Poetry corner: Gateless Gate #8

Here is the translation I suggest in a group discussion podcast:

Where the wheel of mind-activity turns ^Blyth

When the hubless wheel turns ^Reps

Even a master fails ^Yamada

Four dimensions, above, below ^Wonderwheel

South, North, East, West ^ibid

.

For contrast, here is Sekida, who unarguably understands the language, but doesn't seem to understand the poem at all:

機輪轉處 When the spiritual wheels turn,

達者猶迷 Even the master fails to follow them.

四維上下 They travel in all directions, above and below,

南北東西 North, south, east, and west.
