"Conclusively realize that what is unborn is the Buddha Mind and that the Buddha Mind is truly unborn and marvelously illuminating, and everything will be perfectly managed with the Unborn, so that, whatever people try to tell you, you won't let yourself be fooled by them. You won't accept other people's delusions."
"At the time I was young and first began to teach this true teaching of the Unborn, no one was able to understand. When they heard me, people seemed to think I was some sort of heretic or Christian, so they were frightened off."
"From time to time in the forty years I've been here, I've taught others this true teaching of the Unborn and, as a result, this area has produced lots of people who are superior to teachers of Buddhism.
"In China too you have this sort of thing. As you can see in the records that have been brought to Japan, the true teaching of the Unborn long ago ceased to exist there, so that nowadays, even in China, men of the Unborn are not to be found, and that's why no records that speak of the Unborn Buddha Mind have come to Japan."
It's completely silly the amount of indignation people have when someone points out that no, none of the self-proclaimed "Zen" churches have produced a single Zen Master in their history and their claim to being heirs Cao-Dong and Linji is totally bogus. Bankei right away makes it clear that he hasn't seen any evidence of any Zen Masters in either China or Japan. That still reigns true today.
Who will step forward and present a lecture on the Dharma for the gathered crowd?
