Doubt is a great revealer of delusion.
As many of us seek along this pathless path, we arrive at certain understandings. This is when we believe that we have found something, that we have achieved. It is at these points where doubt is most useful.
If we don’t doubt the understandings we make of zen, we will be trapped by them. Unable to move freely, unable to see clearly. It is doubt that lets us shovel out these useless views like piles of dung. It is doubt that helps us find our way.
