If you don't ask, you won't get it; but if you ask, in effect, you've slighted yourself. If you don't ask, how can you know? But you still have to know how to ask before you can succeed....
Since it does not admit of rationalization and contrived understanding, and does not admit of being explained away, how can you work on it? An ancient said, “ I only use what you bring me to point out an entryway to you.” Take care.

Be brave. Make mistakes. Be open to criticism, and be ready to stand up against it. Ask questions and answer questions. That's the Zen tradition. You're not likely to face anything here but the opinions of others.
I think it's a very common theme in the ranting of the Masters that one should not listen to the words of others, but trust in one's self. When you have one set of rules for yourself and one for others, then you are already off base - you've already made a mistake about what this 'self' is. Nobody has a stronger claim to any ultimate truth than you do, and you don't have a stronger claim than anyone else. If you are honest with yourself, you can develop trust.
