The 18th Recorded Saying of Zen Master Joshu, Translated and introduced by James Green, 'A monk asked, "What is the true Dharmakaya of the Buddha?"...'

A monk asked, "What is the true Dharmakaya1 of the Buddha?"

The master said, "Is there anything else you don't like?"

1 Indian Buddhist philosophy developed the idea of a Buddhakaya, Buddha nature of "body", which has three aspects. The Dharmakaya, lit. "truth-body", is one of these three aspects and is the Dharma or truth that is the universal aspect and pure essence of the Buddhakaya.

I've been slowly working my way through all the recommended texts. It's funny how certain things stick with you. Some koans are immediately memorized. Others make you laugh for some reason. I almost cried the other day.

So, what might we be able to with some certainty begin to access the acceding nature of the commonly known vessel, though widely unknown, that is the Dharmakaya? Dare we push the master in? There is nothing else!
