Religion.

Hey r/zen, I am looking to clarify my concept of religion. By some awesome googling skills I came to know that many scholars see it as a western conception.

I like to think of it as a subcategory of culture, concerning sacred or holy. Western thought saw various ideas, beliefs, and practices concerning sacred existence, and similar sounding ones were grouped together in categories called religion. I think Zen doesn't fit in these categories.

I think Eastern cultures lacked a rigid distinction and the concept of religion. So it's hard to find something from zen master regarding religion. Please share if you find anything.

So what's your concept of religion? What do you think of my concept of religion? Point out if you see any gaps or suggest me something to read.

NOTE

These are few ideas outside of scholarship, not based on any sources, directly pointed by observation, while trying to see my true nature ;)
