I'm reading a book titled the six pillars of self esteem because for as long as I could remember I've always had a shit opinion of myself. I'm not done with the book but one of the suggestions is to tackle the negative thoughts as if they were real people, to challenge them as it were.
I also started reading about terror management theory and it covers how neuroticism occurs in people who dont have buffers against unconscious death anxiety. Like religion which promises you an afterlife, or people who stake value in society and its continuity, and the last one being self esteem.
My interest in zen stemed largely from a desire to eradicate the self hatred the fueled all my actions, and while I found some comfort I realize now it has nothing at all to do with that.
I just want your thoughts.
