I 100% don’t think it is. Finding a Zen Master like Joshu might be, but that’s like finding your Descartes out of a generation of mathematicians
We hear of absurdly larger numbers of monks being enlightened at Foyan’s place alone (over 500 I think)
We don’t hear about that many “zen masters”
I’m pretty confident these were people of similar inclinations to the people drawn to be professors today.
The interest and passion for engaging “students” is nothing new after all.
Anyways, the numbers (and I know I’m not referencing sources and page numbers etc., so take it with a grain of salt if you’ve seen otherwise) make me pretty comfortable saying that we have reasons to believe that many, many peeps just came, got enlightened (maybe over the summer...?!), and went back to their lives
I don’t think it makes sense to think of it as this crazy fairytale thing only Buddha could get or something
Besides, thinking of it as something grandiose such that you couldn’t get it right now. Even while reading this. is to contradict the fact that it is something that is yours
What was I saying?
Oh yeah.
So, the peeps who’ve seen the spook probably agree that there’s mutual grokking not to spill the beans since, 1. Those wouldn’t be the beans of anyone but the spiller’s and 2. They can actively send people down dead ends.
So you’re probably not gonna see a lot of such peeps going around talking about the beans. But I bet there are a bunchhhhh and I don’t think it’s likely a big deal
Is this lady-doth-protest-too-much? Does this suggest that I do indeed think it’s a big deal and am projecting it? Maybe, but I don’t think so. There’s a lot of comments and, for lack of a better term (or more rigorous memory) , “vibes”, that seem to suggest that many think there’s this mythological hero component to the concept
Okay, word? We cool? Cool. Now let’s go get the planet enlightened or like maybe recycle something or maybe like drink tap water idk guys I’m just the idea man here
