Does Zen require faith?

One can learn about Zen in a technical sense by the reading and study of the texts of Ch'an masters from the lineage. It is also known that not a single true word can be said about what Zen points to beyond the immediate temporal world. Furthermore, it is not based upon the written word. Therefore, doesn't Zen require a measure of faith to live according to it by practicing and following the teachings? Zen masters say that one must realize what is beyond all of our concepts by dropping them, which is the direct way to 'enter the stream' or the essence known as buddha-nature or the Unborn. In your view of things and at your particular understanding so far, does Zen require faith?
