Having entered the Dharma Hall for a formal instruction, Master Yunmen said: “Today I shall bring up a case [from the Chan tradition] for you.” The whole assembly listened attentively.
After a while a monk stepped forward and bowed. When he was about to ask a question, Master Yunmen went after him with his staff, crying, “You resemble those exterminators of Buddhism, those monks who receive donated food on the long bench96 [and say] ‘What’s there to talk about [with the donor]?’ You bunch of rowdies!”
Using his staff, Master Yunmen chased them out of the hall at once.
Koa: it seems there is actually no “truths” that Zen can teach you other that your reality itself. Isn’t it OK to chase monks away then?
