I couldn't answer this question easily and got interested in sharing it. Common answers list reasons meditation is profitable for your strategy, but ultimately the guilt over the future is not *always* what compels me to do it right now. Another common answer is the pleasantness of the experience, which sounds reasonable: we are hardwired to attempt to repeat things that have a chance to feel pleasant. I couldn't however readily admit that these two principles account for 100% of the cases I feel compelled to meditate. The feeling-pleasant thing is something I rediscover more often than anticipate.
What makes you feel compelled to meditate right now?
