Joshu on authority.

A monk asked, "It is said that true teaching has no form. But when there is no master and no pupil, how is it then?"

_

JoshiI said, "Who made you come and ask this question?"

_

The monk said, "No one in particular."

_

At that, Joshu hit him.

_

_

Why couldn't the monk own his own words?

_

He is used to being told what to do by another.

_

That, even when another is not there, he still made up a 'no-one' to blame for his question.

_

This is the same as the "no gate."

_

Understand?
