I just had them knock on my door again. They came back because I was polite to them the first time.
When I was younger I used to invite them in for tea. That's when I learned they thought dinosaur bones were put on earth by God (some say Satan) to 'test your faith in the bible'. That sort of thinking is impossible to reason with.
In my conversation this morning I tried to cite the parallels between the life of the world/universe and the life of an individual, and explained that I believe in realization in this lifetime - because I disagreed with their ideas around sin and righteousness and morality and the afterlife. I was tempted to donate Huangbo, but the elder of the two made it pretty clear that the bible was the only book she was interested in.
I don't really have a goal with the conversation. I wonder how others here deal with it, and whether you've found some major points of difference between these beliefs and Zen teachings that cut to the quick more efficiently than others?
