Of course it was a trick question, no way to break through that veil of forgetfulness and know the causes and consequences leading you to incarnate, you don't even remember what your dreams were last night!
What's more interesting is what makes one unique, which is the other side of the coin that everyone is a stream from the same lake. Why so much attachment to this side of the coin? Does it make you more comfortable than assuming your uniqueness?
Interestingly enough no one mentioned "memories" in one form or another. Actually someone replied with "experience". If we've had an irrelevant number of incarnations we all experienced a ton of different shit. I see there's the same kind of Alzheimer's veil here. Maybe it's not important we remember. Maybe it's a blessing we don't remember.
The question is rather what is the point of reincarnating so many times?
