Daoxin asked Sengcan what he knew about the Buddha-mind.
Sengcan replied by asking Daoxin, “What kind of mind do you have right now?”
Daoxin answered, “I do not have any mind.”
Upon hearing this, Sengcan asked Daoxin, “If you have no mind, how can it be that the Buddha has any mind?”
[From the Baolin Zhuan]
Question: “Where does enlightenment occur?”
Answer: “Enlightenment occurs within the mind.”
Question: “Where is the mind?”
Answer: “The mind is within the body.”
Question: “Where is the body?”
Answer: “The body occurs within false thoughts.”
[From Five Skillful Means, an East Mountain School treatise]
Huike: “When you observe that your body is no different from the Buddha's, there is no need to search further for final nirvana. When I first generated the mind intent on enlightenment, I cut off one arm and stood in the snow from twilight until midnight, not noticing the snow pile up past my knees, because I was seeking the Supreme Path.”
[From the Record of the Masters & Disciples of the Lanka]
What isn't false?
More importantly, who cares?
If you aren't taking the teachings to heart then all the discussion is just blathering.
