Every other Zen book seems really mediocre compared to On The Transmission of Mind, Instant Zen, and Sun-Face Buddha. They're so direct and succinct. I feel that one can get an understanding from those books without further commentary.
I've tried reading BCR and Book of Serenity, but those just feel very forced and tedious. I don't think I need the drawn out commentary and introductions for cases.
I've also read Recorded Sayings of Joshu (pretty gucci), Zen Teachings of Bodhidharma (okay), Mumonkan (s'alright). Can't remember what else I've read off the top of my head.
Does anyone know of any other shorter, succinct books from legit ZMs?
u shood burn ur bewks. Zen Mastahs say readan' is da devil!
Yes, I know. I just enjoy reading them, anyway. Call the cops, I don't give a damn.
