Bankei's 'Fire is Hot'

"This sort of thing, your recognizing and distinguishing instantly and spontaneously whatever you see and hear, is the dynamic function of the Buddha Mind you have from your parents innately, the Buddha Mind, unborn and marvelously illuminating.

"As another example of the unborn function of the Buddha Mind:

When you're just there with no particular thought at all and someone puts a flame to your fingertips, you give a start, and, without thinking, automatically pull back your hand. This too is proof that the marvelously illuminating Buddha Mind is unborn and perfectly manages [everything].

On the other hand, to think, 'That was a flame just now,' and then realize, 'It's hot!' and get angry with the fellow who burned you is to fall into the realm of secondary experience, deliberating after the fact."

(Haskel)

Isn't to think "It's hot!" redundant? You already know it was hot. You don't need to remind yourself the name of 'fire', you already know what it is and what it does.

Your reactions tell you about your self. They move you effortlessly, compulsively, to, from, away, towards...based on your natural relationship to things.

If and when you relax your mind, you will see more of your own reactions, how you act naturally to the experiences in your life. How you really feel and think about what happens.

This will teach you your true value system, at least how it is at the moment. What you compulsively care about.

To trust in your own instincts as such, allows your instincts to grow and learn by themselves. "Self control" becomes lighter as you flow with your own innate movements of body and spirit.

Life becomes much easier the more we can trust our own instincts and intuition to take care of us.

The deeper states of relaxation will be available to you to sink fondly in.
