Attaining the Preceptor's dharma

From Huangbo Wan-Ling Record

裴相公问师曰。山中四五百人。几人得和尚法。师云。得者莫测其数。何故。道在心悟。岂在言说。言说只是化童蒙耳。

My translation:

Official Pei asked the Teacher (Huangbo), “In this mountain of four to five hundred people, how many have attained the Preceptor’s dharma (referring to Huangbo’s teachings)?

The Teacher said, “The attained cannot be measured in numbers. Why so? The Way (Dao) is enlightened in the mind. How can it be in words/speeches? Words/speeches are only for influencing the ears of ignorant kids.”

.

Found this in the very first line of Wan-Ling Record. Thought perhaps some of you might enjoy it too. There are those who return to the source (mind), and there are those who seek words/speeches to affect their eyes and ears.

And here's a Rose from 1987 for all of us here with eyes and ears, hahaha.

Where do we go...

Ohhhhh… where do we go now

Now now now no no no no

Sweet child uhhh…

Sweet child uhhhh uhhhh uhhhhh uhhhh uhhhhh uhhhh uhh uhh uhh of mine

Damn, how many uhs are there anyway?
