Miaozong's Poem On Bodhidharma's Shoe

Miaozong:

Navigating the sea, he came east on a sliver of bamboo reed,

And on behalf of the Dharma saved others by assuming their heavy karma and refuting the king of Liang,

The master had the principle, he taught with immediacy and without boundary

In the snow, with his single sandal he returned home to the West,

Through the endless peaks of the Congling mountains.

Upright and dignified without or without defilements,

If you try to be clever, you will end up the fool.
