Baiyun Duan 57: Xinghua Looks at the Emperor's Jewel

Zen Master Xinghua Cunjiang was invited by the Late Tang Emperor Zhuangzong to Hebei. When the Emperor returned to his palace, he sent a message to the Master asking, "I've captured the the Central Plains, acquiring a precious jewel which no one before has been able to pay it's worth—what is it's value?"

The Master said, "If it pleases your majesty, let me see the jewel."

The Emperor used both his hands to unravel the straps of his cloth head covering.

The Master said, "Your Majesty, this is the treasure of a king—who would dare to appraise its value?"

The Prince of the Northern Barbarians bends his bow and shoots,
The General of the South faces up to look—
On the sand is where the empty slanted shadow remains,
Gracefully flying straight into its place high in the clouds.

A quick sidenote: First, I'd like to share my appreciation to everyone who has bought the Rujing book so far. It has been downloaded from the site a some 50-60+ times, and sales of the e-book and paper versions have reached around 70 purchases.

For those who wish, I've re-uploaded the text file version to my little "website" so anyone who wants can read it. If anyone doesn't have a free copy at any time and wishes to have one, let me know and I'll do what I can to make sure you get a copy of the file.

As far as the paper publication goes, there is currently one huge issue that I didn't foresee, since it was my first publication—the Rujing book is not formatted for international release. That means that everyone outside of Canada and the US are unable to order a physical copy.

As such, a little after the Baiyun Duan book is released, I will be re-releasing the Rujing book in a new format, one that is acceptable to Amazon for international printing. After that, I'm hoping I have a working standard for the size and shape of the books so that I can keep them on my book shelf and they all look super nice and I love them.

Other than formatting, I will fix a few typesetting errors I noticed (improper indentation, word alignment etc.) But other than that, there will be no change, so each book will have the same info.

So TLDR, the salient points here are:

  1. The new Rujing release will have no new material, so if you have the first, you're not missing anything.

  2. My books are and will always be available for free if I can manage it (can't imagine Reddit will be around forever), so just ask.

  3. If you are interested in a physical copy, but live outside the Canada and US, then the new format should be available to you when it gets released.

Thanks again to everyone and enjoy your week.
