A 5 m/o alt-troll account claims that "not practicing torpor or excitation" is, in fact, meditation. Torpor and excitation being known meditation practices at the time
Let's ask Foyan what why meditation is wrong!
Yantou said, “ These who cultivate purification must let it come forth from their own hearts in each individual situation, covering the entire universe.” How can this be quiet sitting and "meditating"?
Ouch, right? It has to pour out of your heart... and everybody knows sitting in torpor or excitation, or trying not to do that, is not pouring out your heart all over the universe.
Dahui [from Cleary] "I just want you to be in Zen meditation whether you are working or sitting, to be essentially at peace whether you are speaking, silent, active, or still."
This is odd, right? The idea of "meditation" at all times? Sounds like... Wumen, right? But what if it's just a bad translation? What if it's "I just wnat you to be in Zen Dhyana at all times"? Zen awareness, basically? You can do that right? No posture. No particular focus. Just at peace inside, one with all that you are, all that you feel, all that you know, all that you do... piece of cake.
This does not mean that “ no seeing” is a matter of sitting on a bench with your eyes closed. You must have nonseeing right in seeing.
Right... so that's seeing... it's not a matter of practicing seeing. So obviously not engaging in torpor or excitation is not a meditation practice, it's just not doing that stuff and seeing it clearly.
Uttering a few sayings does not amount to talking of mysteries and marvels, or explaining meanings and principles; ' sitting meditation and concentration do not amount to inner freedom.
Tough talk, but there it is. Anybody who claims you can "practice freedom" is lying to you. Thus any sort of meditation practice could never be associated with Zen... even if some 5 m/o alt account says so.
