Baiyun Duan 5: Seeing in the Surangama Sutra

In the Surangama Sutra, the Buddha said to Ananda:

When I do not see, why would you not see where I am not seeing it, as if seeing were not seeing? Naturally, without there being not seeing it in common, it would seem that you not seeing where I am not seeing it is naturally not a thing, and so, say, why would this not be you?

[0295c19] 楞嚴經。佛告阿難。吾不見時。何不見吾不見之處。若見不見。自然非彼不見之相。若不見吾不見之地。自然非物。云何非汝。

Long pregnant dragon pillars before the main hall,
My parents give birth to me—quite handsome!
Creating poetry before understanding speech,
Speak once, gain the highest scholarly prize.

[0295c22] 堂前露柱久懷胎。生下孩兒頗俊哉。未解語言先作賦。一操直取狀元來。
