Why Not Zazen?

If in Zen practice I’m trying to cultivate a non dual, non conceptual awareness, why not do the practice which is known for cultivating that mind state?

Dhyana may not be meditation but it is certainly cultivated by it and in the living tradition of Zen many highly regarded teachers have found it the best means of cultivating that awareness.

Though Bodhidharma sat in front of a wall for nine years (and if you doubt this I see no reason to continue to pick other aspects of his work to regard what Zen is and isn’t) and though I agree that that meditation isn’t the essence of Zen, why should a person not practice what actually cultivates that non dual non conceptual awareness, Dhyana?

In defining Dhyana as Non Dual Samadhi how do you reach that awareness if not by meditation? Personally, how do you cultivate that awareness?
