self mastery

Hello esteemed panel members.

A week or so ago a post came up, now deleted, about wanting a relationship. My reply, which was in lined with the true teachings was met with idiocy. Clearly self mastery is in line with the way of Ch'an. Someone said hedonism is better, and received 7 upvotes.

Perplexing stuff! Mastering desires is clearly part and parcel of Ch'an from time immemorial - 'reducing is superior!'

However, having needs as a human being for community is not a desire but a basic need so a distinction is to be made.

Anyway - what say you on the topic of self mastery an Ch'an, please. I do not come before you to seek argument, but only sincere teachings. Is anyone further from the path, than one who knows not to measure their own impulses?
