As I grow (I hope) spiritually I learn to cherish established relations and feel the importance of tending to them. It may be just a bloke met at a party, that I exchange a couple words from time to time, but there's still something special in the potential. And now big gathering which I know might be fun, but will leave no trace behind seem a bit a waste of time.
At the same time I feel like zen sees relying on personal history as just another attachement. That there is this deep stress put on living in a fleeting moment and every stranger should be as cherished as a closest friend.
